Steve Jobs is my idol and source of inspiration. He is a legend for many budding entrepreneurs and technology enthusiasts from around the world. This essay is dedicated to Steve Jobs – the man who had the mind of an engineer and heart of an artist!
Steve Jobs is well known for his role as the Co-Founder and CEO of Apple Inc. Apple started off from a small basement. It was Jobs’ brilliant mind that took this company to the dizzying heights it has conquered now.
Steve was also involves in other prominent companies (directly or indirectly). He was a member of The Walt Disney Company’s board of directors. He was also the founder and CEO of NeXT.
Steve Jobs played a huge role on the microcomputer revolution. He also played a crucial role in the smartphone revolution with the introduction of iPhone.
At a certain point in his life, Steve Jobs had everything that a man would ever need – money, respect in the society, family, recognition and popularity. But it wasn’t always happiness and sunshine for him in is life.
Throughout his life, Steve Jobs saw many ups and downs. His life has been a roller coaster ride.
His life started off on a sour note after his parents put him up for adoption after his birth. But he was lucky to find loving adoptive parents.
Since childhood, young Steve was attracted towards electronics. His love for electronics led to him befriending engineers who lived near his home.
Jobs was difficult to manage as a child. At school, he’d run into trouble for misbehaving with the teachers. This often resulted in suspensions.
It was during his schooling phase that he met Steve Wozniak. Both Steve’s would go on and build the Apple empire in the future!
Gradually, he started taking interest in things other than electronics and engineering. He was drawn towards creative writing, literature and music. These influences have played a huge role in the design and development of unique Apple products.
Then there came a phase when Jobs used to sleep on the floor in friends’ dorm rooms. He used to gather money for food by returning coke bottles. He used to wait for weekly free meals at the local Hare Krishna Temple.
Thanks to Steve Wozniak’s work, Jobs managed to find a job at Atari. Next on Steve’s book was his search of spiritual enlightenment. For this, he decided to visit India with his friends.
Let us talk about the origin of Apple Inc now. This company was founded by Jobs, Wozniak and Ronald Wayne in the garage of Steve Jobs’ home. While Wozniak did much of the coding and technical work, Jobs focused on marketing and finding investors to fund the venture.
Apple’s design and product stood out. As a result, it found the support of investors. Gradually, the product tasted success and Apple Inc began growing in size!
Jobs was not a traditional coder! Wozniak was the brain behind much of the code (in the beginning). He wasn’t an inventor either. But Jobs sure had a creative and smart mind. He was good at branding and marketing. At work, he was a perfectionist. The quest for perfection led to him being labeled as ‘dominating’, ‘aggressive’ and ‘rude’ at work.
Apple Inc reached great heights. It now had a Board of Directors and hordes of investors. Steve Jobs’ didn’t had the full control over his company. He was the CEO, but he had to give answers to the questions of the Board of Investors.
Jobs was ousted him from CEO post of Apple. Just imagine being kicked out from your own company. This tested Jobs’ character and his strength. After quitting Apple Inc, Steve started his new venture called NeXT. He also played a part in the development of a firm called Pixar.
NeXT began growing in size and stature. Steve’s vision was behind the success of this firm. On the other hand, Apple Inc’s status was deteriorating. Fate took a surprising turn in 1996. In 1996, Apple bought NeXT. This paved way for Steve Jobs to make a comeback to the company he Co-Founded!
There has been no looking back since then. On his second stint with Apple Inc, Jobs started many unique projects. The company developed unique products. In the process, Apple Inc became one of the most valued companies in the world.
Jobs’ principles heavily influenced the design of the products. When everything was going good, he was diagnosed with one form of pancreatic cancer in 2003. Initially he relied on alternative medicine to tackle the disease. Later, he had a surgery to remove the tumor.
After the surgery, he resumed attending office. But health issues kept niggling him. He died on 5th October, 2011. The cause of his death was respiratory arrest.
Apple employees and tech-enthusiasts from around the world mourned his death. Steve Jobs left a huge gap within Apple Inc, a gap that’s very difficult to fill!
For budding entrepreneurs from around the world, Steve is a source of inspiration. The way he built a trillion Dollar company will inspire us all.
